In addition, in order to receive this type of advancement without receiving a medical billing degree, health information clerks generally have to work in the position for two to four years. Therefore, working toward obtaining a medical billing degree is the best way to strive for a position in the field.
The best way to build your resume and qualify for a position is to work toward achieving certification as a Registered Health Information Technician. After earning their medical billing degrees, graduates can take a written examination through the American Health Information Management Association in order to obtain this recognition.
