Medical billing degrees are available from a wide variety of places. Most people earning medical billing degrees, however, pursue associate level degrees and obtain them from junior colleges, community colleges, or online schools.

Obtaining a medical billing degree is the best method for obtaining a job in the medical billing field. While hospitals have sometimes advanced health information clerks into these positions, this practice is becoming increasingly less common. In addition, in order to receive this type of advancement without receiving a medical billing degree, health information clerks generally have to work in the position for two to four years. Therefore, working toward obtaining a medical billing degree is the best way to strive for a position in the field.
The best way to build your resume and qualify for a position is to work toward achieving certification as a Registered Health Information Technician. After earning their medical billing degrees, graduates can take a written examination through the American Health Information Management Association in order to obtain this recognition.
